2010 SYF Instrumental Ensemble GOLD Award - Jurong Primary School String Ensemble!
Awesome kids. These young ensemble players had worked very hard for the past one year and this is their rightful reward. They have heard so much about the John L. Miller - Great Neck North High School in New York, USA. Now, their dream of visiting the American High School shall come true in November 2010.

John L. Miller - Great Neck North High School is located in a nice suburb in Long Island of New York. According to Newsweek magazine's 2006 list of "America's Best High Schools," Great Neck North High School is ranked 23rd. GNNH has a long list of famous alumni, a strong academic and performing arts curriculum; it was also named 2009 GRAMMY Signature School Finalist by the GRAMMY Foundation. The Great Neck Public School District has been named among the 'Best Communities for Music Education in America' by the NAMM Foundation, a coalition of music and educational organizations.

Why the excitement? Because Fuchun Primary String Ensemble was there in 2008, when they obtained the SYF GOLD Award with ease two years ago. Only the best of the best will have the chance to make the trip. I will only send my best team, this is my respect and honour to GNNH.
Now, the impending issue would be getting the fund for this Music Immersion Trip to New York, USA. 2010 is very different from 2008, we have just avoided a double dip recession; our govt is very prudent in public spending. On the other hand, I feel that this trip can only be beneficial to our Singapore kids.
In 2008, I led a team on a similar music exchange program. Three of the students are now studying in SOTA (School of the Arts, Singapore), others have joined their secondary schools' string ensemble or band, holding leadership positions such as concert master/mistress and section leaders. Quite a few are aspiring to study in Juilliard and Mannes College. A single trip and a dozen flowers blossom, I would say it's worth it.
